Memorial Day Parade
Line up West Crawford St. and South Armstrong Ave. Denison, Texas 1200 (Noon). Transportation will be a vintage deuce and a half military vehicle. All members and guest invited to ride in parade. Honor Guard in attendance. Parade begins at 1300 hours.

Our speaker is Brad Underwood CEO \ Executive Director of TAPS Public Transit. TAPS Public Transit is a private, non-profit corporation created to provide safe, dependable and affordable transportation for persons who depend on public transportation or who desire to avoid the high cost of fuel and / or the increasing stress of driving in extreme traffic. TAPS serves individuals of all ages and income groups.

The 2012 Medal of Honor Annual parade in Gainesville Texas is Saturday, April 14th. This year's parade will form up beginning from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. and will step off at 10 a.m. sharp. Line up area is in the vicinity of 311 S. Weaver at the Civic Center. There is a parade vehicle for Chapter 973 members and guest to ride in.
Following the parade the Medal of Honor Recipients will be available for the 1 p.m. public book signing and autograph session at the Civic Center.

Our speaker is Spanky Livingston and Member James Hayes of the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders. Members of the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders attend the funerals of US armed forces members, US armed forces Veterans, firefighters, and police at the invitation of the deceased’s family. Spanky and James may bring gifts for VVA 973 members present so be sure to be at this meeting.

He will give information on the 2012 Medal of Honor itinerary set for the week of April 11-14.

Operation-Welcome Home
Friday November 18, 2011 is Operation-Welcome Home to welcome Home a group of warriors from Ft. Hood and Ft. Sill. The soldiers will come in on Friday the 18th of November, have dinner with VFW 7873 (lakeside), go fishing on the morning of the l9th then a fish fry at Little Mineral Resort after fishing, and then dinner at the American Legion 231 (Lakeside). The next morning is breakfast the morning of the 20th at the Elks, and departure home.
Honor Guard in attendance at welcome event Friday November 18th at 1830 hours located at the VFW 7873 (lakeside).

Denison Veterans Day Parade
The Denison Parade will be on Saturday the 12th after Veterans Day. The Veterans Day Parade in Denison is on Main Street, and line up begins at 10:00 hours and parade begins at 1100 hours. Line up on Crawford street at VFW Post. Members and guest may ride in the parade.

Sherman Veterans Day Parade
The Sherman Veterans Day parade is Friday November 11. Line up is 0930 hours at Mulberry & Walnut Street in Sherman to depart at 1000 hours. Parade will go downtown, around the square, and end at Fairview Park for Veterans Day Ceremony at the park beginning a 11:00 hours. Members and guest may ride in the parade. Afterwords the Elks Lodge in Sherman will provide lunch to Veterans starting around 13:00 hours.

Craig Hill will be back to help anyone with VA claims. Craig is the new North Texas Veteran Outreach Advocate for the VA. Be sure to come and get some help if you need it.

Regular scheduled meeting at 1900 hours. Please come early to have a meal and support Grandy's Restaurant for supplying our meeting room. Our speaker is Craig Hill. Craig is the new North Texas Veteran Outreach Advocate for the VA. His role as Veteran Advocate consists of pretty much anything to help a veteran in need, whether it is a medical problem, a claims problem, education, burial, homelessness, and you name it. He has an office out of the Bonham VA facility, but is usually traveling to different locations and counties throughout North Texas. He says he is like a mobile social worker, but with more resources and the ear of the Director because he works directly for him.
Craig was in the Air Force for 8 years, and deployed twice to support Operations Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. He is currently a member of the Air Force Reserve out of the NAS Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth. He was a former Veteran Service Officer for the Nevada Office of Veteran Services (equivalent to the Texas Veterans Commission), and a Veteran Service Officer for about two years in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He has lots of new information for everyone and is someone you must meet. He has expressed to me his goal is the old fashion kind of customer service. The customer must be completely satisfied and happy with the VA.

Larry made a trip back to Vietnam a few years back with his wife and took some outstanding pictures. If you ever wanted to see how Vietnam has changed since you were there during the war this is your chance. He spent three weeks going from South to North and it is truly unbelievable. He will show his pictures on a big screen High Definition TV so everyone can see every detail. Larry also has a few stories about the pictures that are informative and sometimes hilarious.

Again this year at 1800 hours VVA Chapter 973 will support the Cooke, Fannin and Grayson County Juvenile Boot Camp with a July 4th party. This year the Chapter will supply pizza and fellowship for 18 adults and 60 recruits, cadets and senior cadets. VVA 973 partners with the Air Chapel for this very special Event.

Tony is employed with the Texas Veterans Commission where he is serving veterans in employment services. Over a Navy military career span of 26 years he obtained the second highest rank an enlisted sailor can attain, Senior Chief Petty Officer. He served in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Southern Watch, and also as a Drill Instructor in San Diego.
